Lauren Conrad = Carmen Electra?

I've thought this for quite some time now, but I'm just getting around to actually writing something about it. Anyway, if you're a regular around here, then you know the esteem and fondness in which we hold Carmen Electra. Well, does anyone else think that Lauren Conrad, of TV's "The Hills," (a show I've never watched incidentally) looks like a young Carmen? I found several internet postings that agree, but to me it seems so obvious. I'm not sure how I even became aware of Lauren, but every time I see her I can't help but think of Carmen. Now, I have no idea if Lauren is a good actress or whatever. Actually, for the most part I think people who become famous off a reality show are generally the bottom rung of the acting profession, but let's no confuse this with Shakespeare either. I'm just saying that after years of oogling Carmen, it's nice for a young replacement to find her way into the mix. Lauren also seems to have a young Maureen McCormick/Marcia Brady thing going on. Now, who knows, Lauren's 15 minutes may be close to being over and we'll never hear from her again, but here's hoping she sticks around. Here are some images of Lauren:

I see Marcia AND Carmen in this one:

Total Marcia here. And how cute is this little get-up?

Another shot of Lauren:

Sorta all dolled up here:

Garnett BOW On Belinelli

Despite his being a Boston Celtic, I actually don't have a problem with Kevin Garnett unless he's playing the Lakers. But in the latest evidence that BOWs exist, here's one he committed on Marco Belinelli of the Golden State Warriors the other night. This is not, I repeat NOT, how you set a screen. This clearly has intent behind it. But I wonder? If Stephen Jackson was the one fighting around the "screen" would Garnett have leaned into him this way? You be the judge. Maybe KG was just pissy since this would be the Celtics' second loss in about 30 hours after the Lakers ran roughshod over their asses on Christmas Day.

Bucs Choke, Cheerleaders Don't

Ever since the Rams left, my interest in the NFL has waned. Sure, I still follow it on a general level, but it's just not the same. The 2008 regular season concluded Sunday and in addition to seeing the Detroit Lions become the first team to go 0-16, perhaps another colossal meltdown that people are overlooking is that of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs lost their last four games, including Sunday's at home to the Oakland Raiders, the former team of current Bucs Coach Jon Gruden. That's gotta sting quite a bit. But at least they still have hot Florida cheerleaders.

Paula Marshall Is Underrated

In browsing one of my favorite websites, FARK.com, I came across a link about actress Marisa Tomei and how in her new role as a stripper in the upcoming movie "The Wrestler" the director asked her to do 36 takes of a scene when Tomei is dancing on a stripper pole. After reading the comments forum with the article, it quickly turned into a who-are-the-hottest-40-somethings-out-there debate. One actress mentioned was Paula Marshall, who I remember loving when she appeared on "Seinfeld" in the 1993 episode "The Outing." Marshall played the student reporter from NYU who thought Jerry and George were gay (not that there's anything wrong with that) and subsequently wrote about it in the school newspaper. Every time that episode is shown, I watch it (then again, I have a season pass to Seinfeld on my TiVo). Something about Paula's voice and the jeans she wore in that episode. Definitely my style. Anyway, I had no idea Paula went on to appear in numerous other sitcoms and even some movies and is now 44 years old. She's in "Gary Unmarried," (I also had no idea she was Jay Mohr's wife on the show; Do I smell a new TiVo season pass brewing?) had a role on "Californication," and was on "Nip/Tuck," "Veronica Mars," "Out of Practice," "Spin City," and even appeared on another underappreciated show, "Sports Night." It was good to get reaquainted with her again and she looks as good as ever. Too bad that not enough people know about her.

Rachael Ray's Magic Hand

If you're a fan of Rachael Ray, and I know at least one person who is, you might enjoy this video that first popped up on the intrawebs in October. Let's just say things get rather phallic during a discussion about shucking corn but then again our minds are in the gutter aren't they?

Me Too

I feel a bit awkward posting this photo, considering the post that it follows and that I'm calling for peace and all, but hey, it's Lakers-Celtics and that's a bond of hatred that not even the Christmas spirit can break, so what can I say? Why such vitriol you ask? All I can say is click this. By the way, anyone know why the kid has the "o" and "s" in "Boston" in blue? I couldn't figure it out. But I digress... Thank you to the Lakers for making the rest of this holiday a good one after their 92-83 victory over the Celtics to end the green-clad a-holes' 19-game winning streak. Can't think of a better X-mas present (unless you can find a way to giftwrap the one on the bottom right for me and leave it under the tree. Something about black boots that kill me every time. Just kidding M. You're the only cheerleader for me!!!)

Peace To All

Celtics Dancers

There have been rumors over the years that many NBA teams, including the Boston Celtics, import their cheerleaders/dancers from places such as Los Angeles, Miami, etc. In light of the teams playing on Christmas Day, and the fact that SI.com recently did a photo gallery on the Celtics Dancers, I thought I'd do some "research" and see if I could pick out the dancer most likely to be from L.A. and the one I came up with was above. But then when I looked at the Celtics Dancers website, I could not figure out who she was. Click this link and see if you can figure out who she is. If you do, let me know. If you're interested in the rest of the SI gallery, click here.

When Beauty Queens Go Bad

Scandals are great on their own -- especially when I'm not involved and can view and judge unfairly from afar. But add beauty and glamour to the mix and you've got a made-for-TV movie ready to go. Thus is the case of the "beauty" above, Laura Zuniga (no relation to Daphne), who got herself into some hot water after being caught with a bunch of suspected gang members who had loads of guns and other weapons in their possession. I'm guessing Miss Laura wasn't on her way to an official event while serving as Miss Sinaloa.

Porrista Pics O' The Day

Hello everyone! I'm back. After spending the last four days painting and re-doing my son's room, I've finally found some time to get back online. So I figured I good way to jump back into the fray was with some pictures of the Corona girls from the Mexican league soccer team Toluca. Without further adieu:

UCLA's Undie Run

UCLA students had their ritual "Undie Run" for the fall quarter this week and we must thank Adam Rose of the Los Angeles Times' "What's Bruin" blog for capturing the sight on video. Good work.

Paul Anka Does Nirvana

I admit I'm way out of the loop on this one, but here is Paul Anka singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana as only a lounge lizard can. This video was posted on YouTube more than two years ago (maybe longer), but this is the first I'd ever heard of it, and boy am I am glad I did. I think this rivals Shatner and his work.

Dallas Stars Ice Girls

Since the Kings have been so bad for such a long time -- though they seem to be on the right track now, but I've said that before -- I haven't been to a game at Staples Center for a while now. Between periods, usually the highlight is watching the guy on the Zamboni work his way into every corner to smooth the surface and not crash into a wall. The Dallas Stars take this tradition a step further and employ ice girls to help with the grooming of the playing surface. Seems like a better visual distraction for fans to spend their idle time on. Sports Illustrated did a photo gallery on these women and you can find it at this link.

Douchebag On Speedsters

The first thing I have to say about the video below is that I hope to God it's real and not some made-up ploy for a TV show. To think there are people out there who go through life this way is a scary thought. If you can watch the full five-plus minutes, there will be a nice payoff at the end for this idiot. This is from the a TV show on the Tru TV channel, which I really hadn't paid attention to until now. I do have to say that the judge, or magistrate, or whatever she is, is kinda hot in her own way. Her name is Brenda Di Ioia and she looks fairly young to be a judge. Step aside Marilyn Milian? This show is kinda like the traffic court version of "Blind Date," with all the thought bubbles and on-screen animation.

Chicks Dig The Long Ball

Greg Maddux, one of baseball's greatest pitchers, retired officially on Monday after a 23-year career in which he won 355 games and is a lock for the Hall of Fame. One of my greatest memories of Maddux wasn't what he did on the mound, but what he did on the small screen in a commercial for Nike with then Atlanta Braves teammate Tom Glavine. Perhaps you remember it. That Maddux pitched for the Dodgers in two stints the last few years made me like the guy that much more. He and his dry sense of humor will be missed.

Anna Rawson Earns Tour Card

While listening to the Dan Patrick radio show this morning, I became aware the Australian Anna Rawson, who I believe attended and played golf at USC, has earned her LPGA card and will be on tour in 2009. This is significant because it adds another golf hottie to the mix, joining Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis and others. Heck, even Michelle Wie earned her tour card during a qualifying school tournament over the weekend in Florida. Now we have something else to look forward to.

Stealth Bomber Flyover

I spent part of my Sunday putting up Christmas lights (my wife wishes I had spent more than just a "part," but that's another story). Anyway, while in the midst of this, a stealth bomber flew over my house several times. I think it was practicing for the Rose Parade next month. In the past, the parade has featured stealth bomber flyovers and boy they are a sight to see. On Sunday, I snapped two short videos from my cellphone to capture the bomber in action.

UPDATE: Apparently, this flyover was for the funeral of Verne Orr, a former Air Force secretary. You can find some more at this link if you're interested.

This first one is the better of the two in terms of keeping the bomber in frame the whole time:

On this second one, I didn't pick up the bomber right away, but it flew right over my house and was a lot closer than the first one. Not sure if you can really tell on the video, but the thing is really loud:

Carmen Electra Valentine

We are big fans here at EM of Carmen Electra, so we pride ourselves on having a good feel over the kind of "artwork" there is available all over the intrawebs of Miss Electra. But before today, I had never seen this photo of Carmen, so I thought I'd share with all of you. I found it at this blog, which seemed a strange place, but then again maybe not. Do yourself a favor and click for the larger image.

Amazing Basketball Shot

This is not very good video, but the play that this dude makes to win this Division III NCAA game between Geneseo and Oswego State is pretty amazing. You might have to watch it more than once to see what actually happened.

Here's a better quality video from Yahoo though it says it was from a high school game, but they are wrong. It was a college game.

Houston Comets Are No More

Don't know if you heard this -- it escaped my radar -- but the Houston Comets, four-time champions of the WNBA, have disbanded because new owners could not be found to take over the franchise. It's a sad day for WNBA fans, I'm sure, but at least they can still follow their favorite players through the video game WNBA Live 2008.

Finally A Football BOW?

We see a lot of this in basketball (what we call around here a BOW) but here's one from football. I realize football is a fast-paced violent game, but could Steelers defensive back Ryan Clark have avoided hitting Patriots receiver Wes Welker on this play? Clark was charged with an unnecessary roughness penalty. Would Clark have followed through on this hit if it had been Randy Moss coming across the middle? Hmmm. Just asking

Porrista Pics O' The Day

Here is out latest edition of our frequent feature:
She cheers for Atlante, which was in the Mexican league playoffs this weekend:

The one above... I think that's her in the front with the 80s heavy metal hair:

And here's a ring card girl to boot, from a boxing event over the weekend in Mexico City. Yes, Mexico City.
