Random Lookalikes
I was just looking through photos of the U.S. Open when I came across the one below of tennis player Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland when it hit me that I thought she looked like pop singer Ashlee Simpson. Granted, she's not as hot as Ashlee, who can look great one day and awful the next, but any sister of Jessica Simpson has got to have SOMETHING going for her. Anyway, it was a just a thought.
Here's a few photos of Ashlee Simpson so you can compare:

Like I said, it was a quick thought that popped into my head.

Kid Falls Over Railing
This is interesting video from before the Mets-Phillies game the other night. During batting practice, this kid reaches over the railing for a ball and, well, you can guess what happened next. Apparently he was OK, so it's OK to laugh.

Barack Obama's Mouth Kiss
I was talking about this in the office the other night when Barack Obama made his surprise appearance on the third night of the Democratic National Convention. It seemed as if gave Joe Biden's wife an open-mouth kiss though it might have simply been a byproduct of awkward movement as both moved in to embrace. Hard to tell.
Here's another video that shows the kiss to its completion:
And finally, here's a short piece on the touchy-feely stuff by CNN:

Walsh, May-Treanor, Letterman
Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor on Letterman on Wednesday night. Gotta say they look way better in their beach volleyball "uniforms" though they do look decent when the camera goes to the wide angle and shows both of them at the same time.

Reality Of A Face Transplant
Remember when you were a kid and sometimes you'd get into those verbal battles with a friend, or even an enemy, where you called each names or tried to insult each other's mother or something equivalent? I clearly remember one time someone trying to insult the size of the other person's nose saying something like, "Oh yeah, we'll you need a nose transplant!" And what was the comeback? "Well, you need a face transplant!" That one was good because at that time such a procedure was mere science fiction. Not anymore.
The text below accompanied the photo above and gives a little background on this:
This undated two picture combo provided by The Lancet, shows an unidentified 29-year-old man with tumors, left, and the same man, right, after a transplanted new lower face from a donor. Transplanting faces may seem like science fiction, but doctors say the experimental surgeries could one day become routine. In papers from two of the world's three teams that have performed partial face transplants, experts said their techniques were surprisingly effective, though complications exist and more work is still needed. In this week's British medical journal The Lancet, Dr. Laurent Lantieri and colleagues reported on their patient's status one year after the transplant. In 2007, Lantieri and colleagues operated on this 29-year-old man with tumors that blurred his features. They transplanted a new lower face from a donor, giving the patient recognizable cheeks, a nose and mouth. Six months later, he could smile and blink.

Chelsea Clinton Still Looks Good
Chelsea showing her poise as she brings out Mom:
This gives a pretty good indicator of what we're working with here:

Random Lookalikes
Here's a post about a lookalike pairing I spotted:
Steve McClaren, former coach of England's national team who is now coaching in the Dutch league, and...
Toby Flenderson of "The Office," played by actor Paul Lieberstein:
But now that I'm looking at this a little more, maybe McClaren also looks a little like David Bowie, though with much less hair:

Ana Ivanovic At The U.S. Open

The U.S. Open has begun and Ana Ivanovic won her first-round match Tuesday after failing to win a medal at the Beijing Olympics and generally having played like crap since winning the French Open. I promise not to bombard you with Ana photos, but it has been a while hasn't it? I'll try to limit it to photos that seem to be different from what we've seen, so I think these two qualify.

George Carlin On His Legacy
The Archive of American Television interviewed George Carlin in December of last year and he offers some keen insights about how he wants to be remembered. George died in June and I miss him tremendously.

Hot High Jumper Blanka Vlasic

On the last day of the Olympics, I've just discovered a new hottie. That would be Blanka Vlasic, a high jumper from Croatia who was competing in her third Olympics despite being only 23. I like her not only because she shares a name with a famous kind of pickle, but the fact that she's freakin' 6 feet 4 inches tall is another intriguing proposition. You know how we are fascinated by high jumpers around here. The one thing though that does make me say "hmmm" and a furrow a brow a bit is that Blanka -- and this is totally just a feeling I get -- seems to be the type that can look as hot as anyone one day, but you might not want to catch her on a bad day. We prefer to focus on the positive so we'll post this anyway. I know there are many before me who already knew of Blanka, but I'm glad to finally get into the game. In you're interested, there's this link that tells a little more about her and below are more photos.
This is from the high jump competition in Beijing, where Blanka won the silver medal:
Fine form on the landing:
Blanka used to be a blonde a while back:
She also likes to celebrate when she does well, often doing a little jig:
This is at some Euro meet:
The photographers obviously love her:
Again, those contortions:
When Blanka cleans up, she's got a little bit of a Selma Blair thing going on:
This is Selma Blair, the actress, if you didn't know:
