Giada Is A YouTube Star

As you may know, Giada De Laurentiis is one of our favorites at EM. We are loyal watchers of her show and occasionally like to post photos of Giada as she cooks up a storm on her "Everyday Italian" show. Little did I know (though I guess I should have imagined) that Giada is also very popular on YouTube for the same reasons she's popular on EM. Check out a few of these videos and you'll see there are other like-minded individuals out there:

Edited the right (wrong!) way, your mind can wander. This one is classic:

As the video says, here's Giada finally in a bikini top:

There's a payoff with this one but don't watch it at work unless you're alone and can also overcome the annoying bunny voices:

"Lost" Parody

I just discovered these "Lost" parodies and they are worth a chuckle if you are a fan of the show. I know I'm late to the game on these since the one below had a million views on YouTube already. I guess the first one was posted about a month ago. Looks as if it's going to be a series so I'll keep posting them as I see them. These are episodes 1 and 2.

Episode 2:

Gary Busey Tells It Like It Is

Here is a "good" video of Gary Busey being interviewed at a post-Oscars party by an 11-year-old girl. Apparently the party was being thrown by the United Nations Children's Foundation. The young interviewer wants to know what advice Mr. Busey can give to the young Hollywood stars who seem to be getting into a lot of trouble with the law and it doesn't sound as if he wants to answer. Busey has always been somewhat of a loose cannon, but perhaps that near-death experience in 1988 when he crashed his motorcycle while not wearing a helmet (doctors feared he had brain damage) made him even more unfiltered. You'd think Mr. Busey might have some sage words for the up-and-comers, and I suppose he did in his own way. Alas, he pontificates about what idiots people like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears are and even gets all self-righteous about what they should be doing. I guess I can't disagree about the idiots part though.

And here's Busey intruding on Ryan Seacrest's interview with Jennifer Garner, who seems a bit ill at ease by his presence. And who's that in the background? Yes, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill, hahaha:

Dodgers Do The "Baseball Boogie"

Perhaps the most recognizable sports video of the 1980s was the Chicago Bears' "Super Bowl Shuffle." Those kinds of videos became all the rage in that time. Strange how it seemed so cutting edge and cool, yet you look back on it now and it's extremely painful to watch. If you haven't seen the "Super Bowl Shuffle" you can click here. The video below wasn't quite as popular, but it featured the 1986 Dodgers, who won 73 games that season and finished fifth in the NL West. Until today, I had never even known it existed, but to see Orel Hershiser in a shiny blue jacket trying to "boogie" and Mariano Duncun singing that baseball has been "berry good to me" is worth the price of admission. If you were a fan back then, you'll definitely recognize a few faces. This is soooo bad it's good.

One of my Dodger insiders e-mails me this explanation when asked about the background of the video:
It was made in the aftermath of the popular 1986 Chicago Bears “Super Bowl Shuffle” and the Dodgers were the defending National League West champs. But the video’s shelf life didn’t last long because Pedro Guerrero got hurt in spring training and the team nosedived in the standings. Other sports teams made videos during that era, including the 1984 San Francisco 49ers and the 1986 New York Mets. But during the past two months, this “Baseball Boogie” is definitely enjoying a revival among Dodger fans that barely remember the 1986 roster and enjoy watching players like Guerrero, Orel Hershiser, Jerry Reuss and Franklin Stubbs don fluorescent warmup jackets and boogie with such gusto. One can only imagine the manager’s opinion of their performance.

"Falling Slowly" At The Oscars

One of the coolest moments of the Oscars happened when the Best Song winner was announced. I love it when quote, unquote "regular" people can share the stage with the Hollywood big wigs. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova probably weren't known by too many before Sunday night but when they won for best song "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once" it really was a magical moment. Originally I was pissed when Marketa was initially cut off as she began to make her acceptance speech. But host Jon Stewart saved the day doing the right thing and bringing her back after the commercial break to let her enjoy her moment. Classy. Another thing I was noticing while they were performing was that I thought Hansard looked familiar. Turns out he was in the movie "The Commitments" from 1991 about a group of Irish youths who form a band trying to bring soul to the people of Dublin and are billed by their manager as "The World's Hardest Working Band." Remember that one? It really was a good one. That's Hansard with much longer hair on the bottom left of the movie poster. Their Oscar's acceptance speech is below. Enjoy it while it lasts. The song really is quite lovely. UPDATE: I've removed the two videos from the Oscars because, predictably, they got pulled from YouTube. But I've added another version of the song at the bottom from the Sundance Film Festival.
Actually, I found this one shot off TV from the Oscars so we'll see if it lasts:

And here's one more of the song that doesn't figure to get pulled:

And finally, here's another version when the two were on Letterman last year:

From the Sundance Film Festival:

Jimmy Kimmel's Revenge

The other day, Jimmy Kimmel's girlfriend, Sarah Silverman, came on his show and debuted one of the most hilarious videos I've seen in a while. You can see it by clicking here if you haven't already. It featured Matt Damon and like I said, made me laugh really hard. If you haven't seen Sarah's video, it would be better to view that one first and then view the one below. Jimmy got his revenge on his post-Oscar's show on Sunday night and takes it up a notch. And yes, that's Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Cameron Diaz, and others in the video. How the hell did Kimmel get all these people? Awesome.

Giada's "Looks" Of The Day

Here's a return of a feature we used to do more often here: Giada's Looks Of The Day. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you can click here and here to get an idea or simply do a search for "Giada" on this blog. These images were taken from the episode "Dining In With Style."

Today's Random Find On Fark

As you may or may not know, Fark is one of my favorite websites. The discussion forums are the best. Make me laugh all the time. Below are some photos from a recent thread. It's obvious these photos are commentary on something the submitter thinks went awry. If you'd like to see the full thread of pictures, click here. I don't why some of these make me laugh so much. They just do and I thought I'd share.

Also found in this thread was this brilliant photoshop of Jamie Lynn Spears, the with-child younger sister of Britney.

Shaq's Back In The West

Tonight marked Shaquille O'Neal's return to the Western Conference as he made his debut with the Phoenix Suns in a game against his former team, the Lakers. Although Shaq's act has worn thin with me, he still provides good theater. Here are a few memorable clips, starting with when he said the F-word on local television during a live interview with John Ireland.

Here is a great clip when Shaq dunked on Andrew Bynum and Bynum then came back and did the same to him. And of course, Shaq had to be a little bitch about it:

Then, of course, there was this moment:

Dwight Howard Is Superman

In case you missed the NBA dunk contest over the weekend, here is the clip when Dwight Howard put on the Superman cape and essentially clinched the title. He didn't even dunk the ball, rather he "threw" it into the basket, which almost was more impressive. It's great how excited everyone gets and the replays are worth it alone.

Phillies Pitcher Gets Pranked

You hear a lot about how baseball players, seemingly more than any other group of athletes, like to pull pranks on one another. Here is a great one that was pulled on Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick. The manager, players, his agent and even the media was involved in it. Check it out.

Abbey Road Mystery Guy Dies

Here's an interesting story. The guy in the famous Beatles' Abbey Road cover photo, died recently at 96. What guy you ask? Yeah, I never noticed the guy either. At least I don't think I did. But there he is on the right side of the picture in the background standing next to a police car (yeah, I didn't know that was a police car either). Anyway, if you want to read more about how the guy came to be in the photo, click this link. Kind of a cool little story.

Insight To The Minds Of Men

I have absolultely no context for this photo other than that I found it in a comments forum on Fark.com and pretty much it's what you see is what you get. It did, however, make me laugh out loud when I saw it and pretty much is a living example of the cliche: Boys will be boys. If you didn't already notice it, do you see what the youngster toward the front with the gray jacket is doing?

Aboya Takes One Off The Face

During UCLA's debacle loss Sunday at Washington, junior Alfred Aboya, while defending an inbounds pass, took a basketball off his nose when Washington's Tim Morris couldn't find anyone to pass to. It seemed a rather bush-league play and to Aboya's credit he didn't retaliate. Perhaps he was too stunned. UCLA Coach Ben Howland was incensed that a player would resort to this tactic, though technically legal. Today, the Pac-10 refused to punish Morris for this unsportsmanlike act. Conference spokesman Dave Hirsch issued the following statement:

"We felt the play was part of the game. Morris had no other option. We don’t think he lined up to throw it. There was no malicious intent. We looked at the play several times to make sure. There will be no action to follow up on.”

Part of the game? Winding up and throwing the ball off a guy's face who is two feet from you is part of the game. Morris had no other option? Seems to me I recall plenty of times when players are in this position, the usual spot they pick is to throw the ball off an opponent's leg. It's almost always below the waist. No malicious intent? Watch Morris' facial expression and how he winds up and then tell me there was no malicious intent. Also remember that earlier this season Aboya suffered a broken orbital bone near his eye and had to wear goggles to protect it. I'm sure Morris didn't know this, right? Right. What play was the Pac-10 actually looking at because it certainly doesn't seem as if it was this one. Then there's this quote from Bill McCabe, supervisor of Pac-10 officials, who agreed that a technical foul could have been called, but he otherwise disagreed with the assessment of it having been done intentionally. He blamed the outcome on Aboya!!!

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Aboya jumped in front of the ball,” McCabe said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Aboya caused the contact.”

What!?!?!?!?!?! What the hell is this McCabe smoking? Aboya caused the contact?!?!?! Is the world going mad? The video below isn't the best quality, but it was the only one I could find so far. View it and you be judge

Beatles Tribute At Grammys

Here is the Beatles tribute from last night's Grammys. Not sure how long this will stay up, but let's give it a try, huh?

Richard Zednik's Neck Is Slashed

You might have heard about this last night. Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers had his carotid artery cut by a skate blade during last night's game against the Buffalo Sabres. It was apparently a horrific scene. Zednik had emergency surgery and was resting comfortably today. Buffalo fans, of course, are no stangers to such scenes as many of them surely recall the same thing happening to goaltender Clint Malarchuk. That link can be found here, but I wouldn't recommend clicking it unless you can handle the sight of a lot of blood.

Chris Berman And The F-Word

You remember the Chris Berman video we recently posted of him going haywire during a break? If not, it's here. Anyway, here is another video of ESPN's Mouth That Roared. This one is a montage of Berman using the F-Word over and over so if it matters, be careful where you watch.

Old School With Pete Maravich

Here is a video from a simpler time in the NBA, when multimillion-dollar contracts and out-of-control egos didn't rule the landscape. Many say Pete Maravich was way ahead of his time with his flamboyance and wizardry on the basketball court. There were few like Pistol Pete during his heyday and he certainly knew how to put on a show. I've always had an affinity for Maravich because he died the day before Melissa was born in 1988. If you recall, he was in his 40s, I believe, and collapsed and died during a church-league pick-up game in Pasadena. Anyway, here is a neat clip from a game of horse involving Maravich, George Gervin, Kevin Grevey and Bob McAdoo.

Kim Mattingly Needs A Makeover

I know this photo is all over the place by now, but I had to post it. It's Kim Mattingly, the estranged wife of Don Mattingly, who was arrested last week on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication for refusing to leave Don's home in Evansville, Ind. This person is the reason why Donny Baseball's first season with the Dodgers will be spent dealing with "family issues" and prevent one of the game's best pure hitters ever to sit on the bench alongside Joe Torre in 2008. The rumor is that Mattingly eventually will be groomed to be Torre's successor in L.A. after about three of four years. In the meantime, may we suggest that Kim do some grooming of her own. It reminds me of a line from an old Bugs Bunny cartooon. "She may not be very pretty now ... but she was somebody's baby once."

ImprovEverywhere

This is the group "ImprovEverywhere" performing (is that the right word?) one of their skits (is that the right word?) at New York's Grand Central Station. It's best to just watch the video as it is explained at the beginning. If you are interested in other "ImprovEverywhere" shows (right word?), there is information on their YouTube page if you double click the video.

How's It Taste Pats?!?!

Amazing Super Bowl. I had said I didn't care who won, but as I watched I can't be more happy to say to Patriots fans a nice, big ol' SUCK IT! The image above is from a FARK thread right at the end of the game. Here are some more images:

Nothing better than to see this a-hole fall on his face:

Nice to see Tom Brady's life ain't so perfect after all:

Junior Seau is another guy I'm glad to see NOT win a Super Bowl ring after he "retired" and then signed with New England. What a douche:

Ummm .... guess not!

You could have pre-ordered this book on Amazon ... seriously:

And finally there's this just-posted video:

Cristiano Ronaldo Is Amazing

Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese star for Manchester United, is having quite a season for the Red Devils in the EPL. Here is a brilliant goal he scored recently against Portsmouth. What I find interesting about the goal is that Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney embrace afterward. No hard feelings I guess, since it was Ronaldo who urged the referee to issue Rooney a red card during the 2006 World Cup that led to England's elimination.

Here is the Ronaldo-Rooney incident with some British commentary after the fact:

Political Ad With A Hook

We are getting bombarded with political ads lately, but here's a good one. You all surely are familiar with the notion that seemed to pick up steam when Dubya was gunning for his first election: He's the kind of guy who you'd like to sit and have a beer with. (Oh brother!) The ad below embraces that concept with a slight twist. It's a campaign for Oregon's Steve Novick for U.S. Senate.

"The Wonder Years" Grows Up

So I was reading something on the internets recently and it said that Fred Savage, lovable little Kevin Arnold from TV's "The Wonder Years," was preparing for he and his wife to welcome their second child into the world. Second child? Fred Savage? No, can't be can it? I guess my memories are of "Kevin" and watching him grow up from a boy to a young man on the show, going through all the typical travails that encompass the maturing process. The pain, the heartache, the innocence -- that's what I remember. But here he is all grown up with his wife. Amazing how time flies. Anyway, the real reason for this post was to reminisce about the show and Kevin's childhood crush, Winnie Cooper, played by Danica McKellar. Didn't we all love Winnie? How cute were those two? And of course, as Fred Savage has matured into a man, Danica McKellar has matured into a woman. I actually saw her on an episode of "How I Met Your Mother" recently and she was looking good. You be the judge. Danica actually stopped acting for a while to attend college at UCLA where she earned a degree in mathematics. She is a self-described math nerd, which only enhances her attractiveness.

"Lost" In 8 Minutes 15 Seconds

The new season of "Lost" started last night, and I, like many fans of the show (at least those of us who can't or don't have time to analyze every little clue), had forgotten much about the plot. Well, the video below, which can be found on the ABC website, sums up the show to this point in 8 minutes 15 seconds. Get it? Oceanic flight 815. By YouTube's count, the video is actually 8:14. Kinda steals a little bit of the "Oooooohhhhhh" factor, doesn't it?

Sarah Silverman Fs Matt Damon

You all know my love for Sarah Silverman so the video below, which aired on Jimmy Kimmel the other night, had me rolling. As you know Sarah has been dating Jimmy for quite some time and this video was made especially for Jimmy's birthday. Great stuff. If you need an explanation or background, I've put an entry from Wikipedia after the video. Thanks to my honey (the namesake and inspiration for this blog) for alerting me to the video.

Here's some background if needed:
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel often says: "Our apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time" near the end of his ABC television show Jimmy Kimmel Live, a gag lampooning instances where shows cannot feature their last guest due to time constraints. On September 12, 2006, after a segment highlighting the running gag and a lengthy introduction by Kimmel, Damon finally appeared on the show, only for Kimmel to apologetically cut his interview and head to credits, as Damon cursed him. Kimmel later confirmed to USA Weekend that the skit was entirely planned and Damon willingly played along. Kimmel's girlfriend, comedian Sarah Silverman, also used this line at the end of the 2007 MTV Movie Awards. This gag was also used again when Guillermo interviewed Damon at the Ocean's 13 premiere, with Damon asking "Are you with Kimmel?" Silverman also aired a clip of her singing a song entitled "I'm f***king Matt Damon" on January 31, 2008 on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Damon appears in the song with Silverman and at the end when she is apologizing to Jimmy, Damon interrupts her saying, "Jimmy, we're out of time. Sorry."

Chris Berman Gets Pissy

Now I've heard in the past that ESPN's Chris Berman can be quite a pain in the ass, not to mention an arrogant prick by some accounts -- he of the can-we-stop-with-all-the-nonsense-of-this-way-too-long library of nicknames (Eric "Sleeping With" Bieniemy and Chuck "New Kids On The" Knoblauch are two one of my "favorites") After all, Berman was the inspiration for an entire website, which bears a reference to him. The video below apparently happened eight years ago but it's gold. It also is very R-rated so please be careful where you watch. I first saw this on Deadspin though someone posted it on YouTube. If the embedded video below doesn't work, click this link.
