La Russa Stumbling And Slurring

Here's video from ESPN via police in Florida when Tony La Russa, the Cardinals manager, was arrested for drunk driving. Funny how no one seemed to be up in arms over this. In fact, La Russa got a freaking standing ovation from the folks at spring training the day after the news of this broke. Bravo Tony. You are a real American hero. If you want to see a bunch more video of the incident the Smoking Gun is all over it.

Beckham's Goal In Australia

Say what you want about David Beckham, but the guy knows how to deliver. Here is his goal against Sydney FC the other night in a 5-3 loss during the Galaxy's trip Down Under. It's a classic Beckham goal. This, after he was injured early in the game, threatening his availability. In fact, Sydney, as well as the team in New Zealand that the Galaxy will play, have it in the contract that Beckham must play at least 55 minutes in both games. Well, when 80,000 people turn out, it's no wonder why.

Dogs Don't Like Auburn Players

This is a great little clip of an Auburn football player getting nibbled on by a police dog during the "Iron Bowl" game involving Auburn and Alabama last weekend. It brought to mind the time when Auburn was playing at Georgia and the Georgia mascot, a bulldog named UGA, lunged at an Auburn player. Thankfully, this clip flashes back to the UGA almost assault. Good stuff.

Middle Eastern Ball Skills

This clip comes from some soccer league in the Middle East. I could do without the cheesy music, but the ball skills are pretty sweet. It's weird how all the players just stop for what seems to be quite a long time. Obviously it didn't lead to a goal or else we would've seen that.

Colombia Stuns Argentina

I know it's only 2007, but qualifying is already in full force for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Most of the major action is happening in South America and Colombia is off to a roaring start with eight points in four games, including a victory over world power Argentina on Wednesday. Suffice to say, this is good news for me being Colombian and considering the country has failed in its last two bids to reach sport's most popular event. The win over Argentina was the first for Colombia since a 5-0 rout at Buenos Aires in 1994. Any time you can knock the Argies down a peg or two is a good day. Here is fhe first Colombia goal on a beautiful strike from Ruben Dario Bustos:

This is the winning goal from the Caracol broadcast in Colombia. Believe or not, the dude was not offside. They showed this match on GolTV but the camera was from the other side and you can clearly see it was the right call. I know it looks otherwise, but trust me.

And just for kicks, here's a goal Bustos scored in a 1-0 win over Venezuela earlier.

Barry Bonds Indicted

By now you've no doubt heard that Barry Bonds was indicted by a federal grand jury on perjury charges. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Here's the first few paragraphs from the AP story:

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Barry Bonds, baseball’s home run king, was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice Thursday and could go to prison instead of the Hall of Fame for telling a federal grand jury he did not knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs.
The indictment, culminating a four-year investigation into steroid use by elite athletes, charged Bonds with four counts of perjury and one of obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison.
Shortly after the indictment was handed up, Bonds’ personal trainer, Greg Anderson, was ordered released after spending most of the past year in prison for refusing to testify against his longtime friend.
The 10-page indictment mainly consists of excerpts from Bonds’ December 2003 testimony before a federal grand jury investigating the Bay Area supplements lab at the center of a steroid distribution ring. It cites 19 occasions in which Bonds allegedly lied under oath.

Barry no doubt will continue to feign innocence and never come clean ala Marion Jones. Anyway, here are some photos that were posted on the Fark comments forum regarding the Bonds situation that I thought you might enjoy.

Kings Miracle Comeback

Some of you may remember the "Miracle on Manchester" when the Kings came back from a 5-0 third-period deficit in a playoff game against the Wayne Gretzky-led Edmonton Oilers and won 6-5 in overtime. It was one of the most amazing comebacks in NHL history. Well, last night's Kings-Dallas Stars game ranks up there to. The Kings trailed Dallas, 4-0, with less than 10 minutes left. They went on to score the fastest five goals in their history to take the lead, gave up the lead when Dallas scored with about a minute left to tie it, then won it in overtime. Quite an amazing night. I realize it's only November, but it's still a rather uplifting sequence of events. The video isn't that great of quality and the audio is from the Dallas announcers so that aren't quite as thrilled with the comeback.

And if you're interested, here's the only video I found on the "Miracle on Manchester" though the audio seems to be ahead of the video.

WGA Closes Down 'The Office'

As you know, the Writers' Guild of America is on strike and the first shows affected were those that are shot live daily such as David Letterman and Jay Leno. Soon, however, sitcoms and the like will feel the effects when all the shows that are in the can have been broadcast. One show in a rather unique position is "The Office" since many of the actors on the show (Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, and others) are also writers. Of course, they have stopped filming and Kaling, Novak and others are walking the picket lines as well as this video shows. They make some good points.

Hot In Herre: Scranton Style

I'm a huge fan of "The Office" and now that I got Johnny hooked on it, I think, I started cruising around looking for videos on the show. I came across this one. It's basically a montage set to the song "Hot in Herre" by Nelly. It's very well done and if you're a fan you will recognize plenty of moments that fit well with the tone of the song. Kudos to whoever put this together as you tell it was an extremely labor intensive effort.
