Ricardo Clark Gets His Kicks

This is a rather ugly incident that took place in MLS over the weekend as Ricardo Clark of the Houston Dynamo kicks Carlos Ruiz of FC Dallas after the way got tangled up during a free kick. Watch the force that Clark uses to hurt Ruiz, who has been known to embellish. I don't think that's the case this time. On Thursday, MLS suspended Clark for nine games, the longest suspension in the league's history.

Wait a second! You say there's no embellishment. That was an inexcusable cheap shot, but he kicked him in the side. But Ruiz grabs his head. No, he could've been hurt from landing (it's a bit unclear whether he landed on his head), but he definitely did even reach toward his head until after the kick in the ribs. I say embellishment!

The Law, maybe i didn't explain thoroughly enough why i brought up the word "embellish" in the first place. Ruiz has a reputation for faking injuries (the way most soccer players do whenever they are knocked to the ground although he goes even above the norm). I would agree that it's strange to the average fan that he grabs his head, but I think that's more a byproduct of his "soccer psyche" that tells him to make any injury/knock down look as bad as possible (even if he's in real pain, which i think is the case here) and what could be worse, as far as perception, than a blow to the head? that being said, i still think the force behind clark's kick was definitely "felt" by ruiz and that's what i meant by not thinking he embellished. sure, he tried to make it look worse by grabbing his head, but i also think after the initial theatrics when he stopped flailing around and was doubled over that he was really feeling the pain of Clark's kick.
